The first part of the series, which will be hosted by the bestselling author Frank Schätzing do come marine biologists of the past, the oceans on the track. When and how did it all start? How are the oceans formed and how it could develop life? With the research vessel Meteor scientists try out more about the oceans and their inhabitants to bring to the surface. The operation is called the Census of Marine Life "and has the goal that one wants to call in the next few decades, all living creatures in the oceans. An almost impossible task for the marine biologists. From the North Pole to the Antarctic, from the coasts of Africa to the Fiji Islands to any marine life get a name. In addition, the formation of the oceans are explored millions of years ago. As developed from the primeval ocean, the oceans as we know them? The researchers urge with a novel underwater robot in front of an incredible 3,000 meters deep, which in total darkness and bubbling volcanic vents that emit sulfur steam, dominate the landscape. In the second part, we learn more about the development of the most successful predators of the sea: the sharks. These fascinating animals are often unfairly depicted as a killer in the blood rush to attack the people behind cunning. Here, however, the researchers explore how it could succeed in some shark species to remain for millions of years, the unrivaled king of the seas. Some species, such as the coelacanth, believed extinct since animals appear suddenly move from the great depths of the seas and the scientists in an uproar. Also on the ancestors of the sharks, the Megalodon as we learn more in this documentation. He was twice as big as a Great White Shark and his enormous size he was probably also the evolutionary fate. The third part of the documentary series takes us to the Arctic, a virtually unexplored habitat. In Spitzbergen, where the permanent ice predominates, the paleontologist Jørn Hurum came across the traces of Pantodont, a primeval river horse, that was previously only known from tropical areas. But early researchers believed in a formerly warm sea in the ice. In exploring the Arctic, researchers have to hurry, because of climate change melts the region very quickly and the animals disappear. At the same time a huge treasure chest opens under the ice: a quarter of global reserves could then be used in oil and gas and massive amounts of tin, manganese, gold, nickel, lead, platinum and diamonds. But the permafrost is melting slowly, so that access large amounts of methane into the atmosphere. Scientists fear that the methane from the ocean that heat the world's climate is much more than do coal, oil and natural gas today.
